Named 2009 National Young Audiences Artist of the Year, Greta is also the recipient of a 2009 Hero Award and a 2008 Sunburst Award from Young Audiences of Oregon and Southwest Washington. She has appeared internationally in concerts, arts festivals, schools, and on television and radio. Greta's music is licensed to numerous video soundtracks and publishing projects, including Scholastic's Circle Time series. Her "Music Is Magic" video has been broadcast on the Learning Channel.


She has two Magical Music Express recordings:

  • Friendship Stew won an Award of Excellence from the Film Advisory Board.

  • Music Is Magic received a 2004 Classic Recording designation from the Children's Music Web Awards and is endorsed by the Child Advocacy Council.

As a music educator, Greta advised the Arts For Learning national design team in collaboration with Between The Lions®, the Emmy award-winning PBS children's series. She acted as lead teacher for the program's first national pilot of the residency "Call it As You See It," and lead subsequent training workshops at the Young Audiences of Indiana Institute for Artful Learning in summer of 2008. Greta was one of a handful of artists selected to create lesson plans for Oregon Public Broadcasting's online Oregon Art Beat in the Schools. She collaborated as a writer and editor for the Young Audiences Companion DVD to the Rubric.

 

Greta is a performer, teaching artist and peer mentor coach with Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington. She conducts songwriting residencies for Wordstock (formerly Community of Writers) in Portland, Oregon, as well as performance workshops for adults and youth.

 

Her workshops for educators have been hosted by Oregon Alliance for Arts Education, Gymboree Corporation, the Southwest Washington Early Childhood Tapestry Conferences, Mt. Hood Community College Early Childhood Institute, Music for Minors Docent Training Program, Santa Clara Office of Education (including keynote), and various chapters of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

 

In rare moments, you will find her performing an eclectic mix of blues and classic rock with her husband, Grammy Award winning guitarist, Mark Hanson. Together, they run Accent On Music, LLC, which specializes in guitar instruction books, CDs, and DVDs.

 

Greta studied music in Vienna, Austria, before receiving a B.A. in Music from Stanford University and a California Music Teaching Credential through San Jose State University. She is currently a regional representative for the Children's Music Network's Pacific Northwest region and on the professional development committee for the Right Brain Initiative. She plays guitar, piano, lap dulcimer, autoharp and harmonica.
